A dear friend looked me in the face
Her eyes lit up and her smile was warm and genuine
The lines and creases may have increased
Where it once was more smooth
But there's beauty in the time that has passed
Of being seen for who I used to be and for who I am now
I feel like I can be myself with friends like that
To feel unburdened by the weight of expectation and perfection
Of having the rightly polished words and image
She looked me in the face
And said to me, I think you're a little bit magic
My heart felt squeezed and held
My lips turned downward with emotion
Not bad emotion but full of hope
And something else
That feels life-giving
